The Tilden Park Merry-Go-Round in the Berkeley hills is lovely to visit during the day, but it is even more special to visit at night during the yearly Christmas Fantasy. The carousel is open nightly from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m now through December 23rd, and Santa is there Friday through Tuesday. We bundled up our kids and brought them there on a Friday night. It was very chilly, but absolutely gorgeous.

Hot cider and hot chocolate are available at the concession stand, Christmas music is playing, parking is easy, and the merry-go-round is not too crowded, especially if you go earlier in the evening. No queueing was necessary while we were there. The weather is quite chilly, so dress appropriately. Also, the parking lot is unlit, so you may want to bring a flashlight!
