If your geek-dar is going off, it’s likely because the Star Trek Exhibition is in town at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. Here’s your chance to boldly go where many geeks will have gone before and  see “the world’s most comprehensive collection of authentic Star Trek objects”. This 15,000-square-foot exhibition features:

  • An authentic replica of the bridge from the U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701 as featured in the original Star Trek television series
  • Iconic gadgets from the Star Trek universe: a tricorder; a phaser, and a communicator – all from the original series. Devices that have inspired innovators of today.
  • The actual shooting model for the Borg Cube, as seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager and in the movie Star Trek: First Contact
  • A chance to ride through a Star Trek adventure in a full-motion flight simulator (extra fee)
  • And lots, lots more!

At last, your chance to pretend like you’re on deck with Jean-Luc Picard.

Since this is posted on a website about events for babies, it’s only fitting that you take your child to this event dressed in one of these onesies, available at ThinkGeek:

Youre my #1 Dad! - from TNG Episode 133

"You're my #1 Dad!" - from TNG Episode 133

The prices are quite steep for this exhibition – $25 for adults, $19 for children ages 3-17.  (Yes, I know that this post isn’t entirely fitting for the entire spirit of this blog, which highlights the more inexpensive entertainment options in the area, but I thought the event was “interesting” enough to warrant a post.)

And a word of caution from the exhibit’s website:

We encourage costumes but for the safety of you and our other guests and employees please abide by the following guidelines:

  1. No masks.
  2. Elaborate costuming may inhibit your ability to ride simulators.
  3. No weapons. Phasers, shields or any other accessory that may be perceived as a safety concern in any galaxy by any species is prohibited and must be left in your space shuttles.

Wow.  Just wow.

Anyway, the Tech Museum is located at 201 S. Market St., San Jose.
