If you read those articles in “Pregnancy Magazine” while waiting in your obstetrician’s office, you may have discovered that you were supposed to have a comprehensive childcare budget, a college savings fund, life insurance for you and your spouse, and prepared a will…before you even got pregnant. Whoops! Most of us cobble these things together after the baby is born. Or after two babies are born, in our case.
We finally got life insurance policies last year; making our wills was on the to-do list for this year. Because our financial situation isn’t that complicated (read: I don’t think anyone is going to be quibbling over who inherits our mid-nineties sub-compact car in the event of our untimely demise), the major purpose of having a will is to establish guardianship of our kids. Since our will making needs are simple, I feel comfortable bypassing the lawyer and making my own will using desktop software – the Quicken Willmaker, to be exact, designed by the East Bay’s very own Nolo Press.
If you are a Costco member, you can buy it through Costco’s online store for $15 off and free shipping…but only through January 24th!
