A little while back, I decided that I should meet some other moms in the area and joined the Fremont-Union City- Newark Mother’s Club (FUNMC). It’s a non-profit, all-volunteer club that provides opportunities for moms and their children (I believe under 5 years of age) to meet one another and socialize. In addition to providing a forum for organizing play groups, and coffee socials, they also host a montly Mom’s night out where moms go out and socialize. They usually subsidize $50 worth of appetizers or whatever per event. (They’ve recently held Mom’s Nights Out at Applebees, a frozen yogurt place, WingStop, etc.) They also have monthly general meetings with a guest speaker (most recently, Rita Young, the founder of the Marvegos Fine Art School, gave a presentation). They have some great speakers planned, and you can join these sessions whether or not you’re a member.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to attend a few events, and it’s been great. It provides an opportunity for me to get out of the house alone and socialize with other adults, and also there are lots of events for my son to get out and socialize with other local kids his age.

For more information, including membership fees and terms, etc., go to their website.
